Per the WSLA Handbook, Out of Season begins Labor Day and ends the first day of the Spring season.

Section XXI. (page 40):

B. During Out-of-Season, coaches may coach players that participate on teams that do not feed directly to the In-Season team they coach.

C. During Out-of-Season, coaches, paid or volunteer, may coach or conduct practices or conduct instructional clinics for present or future In-Season team members ONLY under the following conditions:

1. Any Out of Season team, skill clinic or other lacrosse opportunity is open to all players in WSLA;

2. Any Out of Season team, skill clinic or other lacrosse opportunity is published on the WSLA website at least 14 days before the event date;

3. Regular Participants (defined as those attending 3 or more practice sessions or events for the Out of Season Opportunity) are identified by program on the WSLA website;

4. If the Out of Season Opportunity is a skills based clinic session, whether on a one time basis or on an on-going basis, it shall be concluded no later than the Martin Luther King Holiday of any given year.
D. If an Out of Season Opportunity is for the purpose of establishing a team to compete in a particular tournament or competition (hereafter called  
“Tournament Team”) then the sponsors of the Tournament Team will be responsible for the following:

1. Identification of Intent: The organizer of the Tournament Team will send an email to the Vice President of the Board twenty-one days (21) prior to a Try Out that states the following:

2. Identification of the Coaches that will be involved in coaching a Tournament Team;

3. Contact information, including program affiliation of coaches, for each coach;

4. Information and form of flyer or other tool for dissemination of information about the Try Out process for participation on the Tournament Team;

5. Purpose of Tournament Team (e.g., tournament to be entered, event, other)

  1. Anticipated cost of participation;

  2. Anticipated practice and event locations, dates and times, as it practicable to identify;

E. Tournament Teams may be formed only under the following conditions:

  1. Notice as required in XXI.D is provided;

  2. There is an open try out to any participant who wishes to try out for participation;

3. Notice of the Try Out is published at least fourteen (14) days before being held. The Notice must clearly state at least the following:

(1) Date, Time, Location and any cost for attending the Try Out;

(2) Identification of the purpose of the Tournament Team;

(3) Identification of anticipated costs of participation;

(4) Identification of Coaches that will be involved;

(5) Identification of anticipated practice dates and locations;

(6) Selection Criteria.

4. No more than one week following any Tournament Team try out, the Out of Season Tournament Team organizer shall notify the appropriate League Vice President of the name, in season program affiliation and grade level of each player selected to participate on the Tournament Team.

5. The Tournament Team will be publicly announced on the appropriate League Website.

6. The Tournament Team may be publicly announced on any website or publication affiliated with the Tournament Team.

F. Nothing in the proceeding rules requires Out of Season Opportunities to be geographically equal to all potential players.

G. League Programs may conduct two organizational meetings during Out- of-Season to issue equipment and to explain such issues as insurance, physical examinations, season’s plans, training regulations and any other pertinent information deemed necessary by the coach.

H. Programs and teams may have fundraising meetings during the Out-of- Season period subject to the approval and rules of their affiliated schools and support organizations.

I. League coaches may conduct two organizational meetings during Out-of- Season to issue equipment and to explain such issues as insurance, physical examinations, season’s plans, training regulations and any other pertinent information deemed necessary by the coach.

J. Programs and teams may have fundraising meetings during the Out-of- Season period subject to the approval and rules of their affiliated schools and support organizations. 

XXII. YEAR ROUND CONDITIONING

A. A program or coach may organize and conduct a year-around conditioning program to include weight training, running and exercising provided all of the following conditions are met:

B. Participation is not a requirement or condition of participation on a WSLA High School League or Youth League In-Season team,

C. The conditioning program is open to all interested participants, and

D. The conditioning program does not include instruction in or practice of lacrosse skills.  

In-Season COACHES, PLAYERS  AND STICKS SHOULD NEVER BE TOGETHER

DURING OUT OF SEASON!
