HS Team Awards
High School Division State Academic Champion Award
1. A State Academic Champion shall be awarded for the Varsity High School League programs.
2. A State Academic Champion may be awarded for the Junior Varsity High School League programs
3. State Academic Champion(s) shall be selected by the High School League Board. Selection shall be based upon the highest unweighted average grade point average (GPA) achieved during the last completed semester or trimester of school of all team members that participated in a program’s highest Division team during the current season. The GPA shall be based upon the GPA achieved for the semester or trimester, and not the players’ cumulative GPA. A team shall have at least 12 players to be eligible for consideration.
4. High School League teams that are eligible for consideration shall have a State Academic Champion Form or Forms submitted to the League administrator as follows:
a. A representative of the team shall identify, on a State Academic Champion Form or Forms, the name and year of graduation of each player that participated on the program’s team during the current season, then submit the form to the Registrar at the schools attended by the team members. The State Academic Champion Form will be posted at the WSLA website.
b. The Registrar shall identify, on the State Academic Champion Form, the unweighted GPA achieved by each team member listed during the last completed semester or trimester of school, then mail a signed copy directly to the league administrator by April 15 of the In-Season.
c. The League administrator shall receive and compile information submitted by Registrars for the State Academic Champion Award.
EXTENDED DUE DATE OF MAY 10th
Team Sportsmanship Award
Each Conference shall nominate one team from their conference to receive the League Team Sportsmanship Award.
2. The Team Sportsmanship award will be selected through a process and on criteria identified no later than the first day of In-Season.
a. The process and criteria will be posted at the WSLA website and will be distributed to the membership.
